The country may be divided into four main physical regions: along the south coast stretches a flat band and more inland are an area of low hills, with an average of between 400 and 600 m above sea level, covered by areas of dense equatorial forest; near the north coast rises Mount Cameroon, the highest peak in West Africa, an active volcanic massif (4,070 m), which from the Atlantic coast extends to the south-west and the north-east; at the center of the country rises the Adamaoua massiff, a plateau that reaches an altitude of 1000-1500 meters; the north of Cameroon is characterized by areas of savanna and the swampy areas of depression of Lake Chad. In the far north, on the border with the Nigeria, extends the chain of the Mandara Mountains. The most important rivers of Cameroon are the Benue, the Sanaga and the Nyong. In the territory of Cameroon is a part of Lake Chad (the camerunense area of the lake amounts to about 1,500 kmq) shared with Chad, Nigeria and Niger. Cameroon produced for domestic consumption sorghum, millet and cassava, while for the export products are cocoa, coffee, bananas and peanuts. In the north of the country has developed breeding. The industries are related to food processing, there are metal (aluminum), textiles and chemicals industries. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
