Kenya (Jamhuri ya Kenya), is a presidential republic of central-eastern Africa. The country is washed from the southeast by the Indian Ocean, bordered to the south with Tanzania, to the west with Uganda, to the north-west with the Sudan, to the north with Ethiopia and to the east with Somalia. Kenya presents several natural regions, along the coast of the Indian Ocean is an area of low plains, in the northern, between Lake Turkana and Somalia, is a steppe and desert plateau, with an average elevation of approximately 800 meters; further south is the great depression of the Rift Valley and the volcanic highlands of the central regions, the average altitude of the highlands is above 2,000 meters, which culminates with the 5,199 m of Mount Kenya, the highest mountain of Kenya, and the second African mountain elevation, after Kilimanjaro.
 

The Rift Valley is developed to the north of the country forming the depression of Lake Turkana (7,100 sq km), while it continues southward with lakes Baringo, Hannington, Nakuru, Magadi and Natron. Around the great depression of the Rift Valley rise the Mau Escarpment (3,099 meters) and the Aberdare range, a mountain range, located west of Mount Kenya in central Kenya, with the highest peak, Mount Lesatima, at an altitude of 3,995 meters. Along the border with Uganda, to the northeast of Lake Victoria, is the volcanic cone of Elgon (4,321 meters). At the borders between Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, at an elevation of more than 1100 meters above sea level, lies Lake Victoria, with an area of 69,490 sq km is the largest of the lakes in Africa. The country’s major rivers include the Tana and Galana that flow in the Indian Ocean. Kenya's economy is based mainly on agriculture, are cultivated tea, tobacco, pyrethrum, corn, wheat, agave sisalana, coffee, cassava, cotton, bananas, sugar cane, pineapple. Important are also breeding (cattle, sheep, poultry, goats and pigs) and the exploitation of timber. Little mining resources. Among the industrial activities are mainly related to processing of agricultural products and livestock (factories, breweries, tobacco manufacturing, oil mills), then the following areas steel, chemical and petrochemical. Considerable importance is covered by the tourism sector, for the presence of beautiful beaches along the coast of the Indian Ocean, and on safari in search of wild animals in the many national parks.

Population: 34 700 000 (2006 data) (Kikuyu 22%, Luhya 14%, Luo (Kenya) 13%, Kalenjin 12%, Kamba 11%, Kisii 6%, Meru 6%, other black African 15%, Asian, European, and Arab 1%).

State Capital: Nairobi.

Languages: Official languages are Kiswahili and English, spoken also numerous indigenous languages.

Religion: Protestant 45%, Roman Catholic 33%, Traditional Religions 10%, Muslim 10%.
