Bloemfontein is the capital city and the main town of the Free State Province with more than 650 000 inhabitants, the city is located in central South Africa, near the border with the semi-arid Karoo Region, on a Plateau at 1 395 m above sea level, the landscape is formed by grassland plains and low hills (Highveld). The city is an important commercial and financial center and is a vital road and railway node. It's the seat for the Supreme Court Of Appeal and is the judicial capital of South Africa.
 

2010 FIFA WORLD CUP: Bloemfontein, is among the 9 South African cities that between 11 June and 11 July 2010 will host the World Cup soccer championships.

CLIMATE: The climate of Bloemfontein has dry winters from May to August with average temperatures around 17°C during the day and reaching -2°C overnight. The summer that goes from October to February has temperatures around 30°C during the day and rain in the afternoon, the most rainy month is February. Snow is a rare event. Rainfall is concentrated during the summer months, between November and April, the average annual rainfall is just over 550 mm. The winters are cold and dry, the average minimum winter temperatures vary between -2°C and 1°C, while the average maximum winter varies between 17°C and 20°C. Summers are hot with maximum temperatures ranging between 31°C and 29°C, the minimum average summer temperatures ranging between 14°C and 15°C.
