The Namib Rand Nature Reserve was established in 1992 in order to protect and preserve the eco-system and the animals of the area, the pre-Namib, an area rich in flora and fauna and very important to preserve biodiversity and facilitating seasonal migration of animals. The reserve thanks to the elimination of all types of fences and the low-impact tourism, has become a sanctuary for wildlife and a model for the conservation and management of a private area in Africa. Among the mammals in the Namib Rand there are many Oryx (Oryx gazelle or gemsbok) and the gazelles (Antidorcas marsupialis or springbok), among other species present there are antelope, Hartman and Burchell zebras, giraffes, alcelaphus (hartebeest), some small antelopes like klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus) and the steenbok (Raphicerus campestris), and baboons. Among the predators are leopards, hyenas, jackals, various species of foxes, African wild cats, the caracal; many are also reptiles and birds; rich is the variety of desert and semi-deserts plants present. | ||||
