The route passes through the towns of Strand, Gordon's Bay, Rooiels, Hangklip, Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, until, after Kleinmond following R 43, to Hermanus. This is one of the most spectacular and beautiful coastal roads of South Africa, it is in fact the so-called Whale Route (road of whales). The road travels across the eastern part of False Bay to Cape Hangklip, from here on clear days you can see at the western horizon, the entire peninsula of Cape of Good Hope, in addition, the route crosses a truly magnificent landscape with mountains and cliffs drop to the Atlantic ocean interspersed with fine white sand beaches. The most spectacular route is the stretch of about 40 km, from Gordon's Bay to Kleinmond, crossing the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, which occupies the entire coastal stretch between Gordon's Bay until Bot River vlei and extends inward to Grabouw and Groenland mountains, the reserve, known as the "heart of the fynbos", houses 1,600 different plant species over many animals including leopards, antelopes, and many species of birds .
