Costa Rica climate is tropical and sub-tropical, but varies in relation to the altitude, in the highland, between 600 and 1600 metres above sea level, where are the major population centres of the country, climate is temperate year-round, with average minimum temperatures ranging between 14°C and 17°C, and maximum average temperatures between 27°C and 24°C, rains are concentrated in the months between May and November, while the dry season runs from December to April, in these areas the average annual rainfall is around 1,800 mm.
In the mountains above 2000 meters temperatures fall significantly with average temperatures between 5°C and 14°C and high temperature ranges between day and night. The coastal area of the Caribbean Sea is particularly rainy with an average annual rainfall of around 4,000 mm, here the more rainy months is that of December. The driest region of the country is the coast of the Pacific Ocean which records an average annual rainfall of around 1,000 mm, with the rainy season between May and November, while the dry season runs from December to April.
