The Dominican Republic has a humid tropical climate, with hot temperatures throughout the year, which become more mild and fresh with the height and thanks to the breath of north - east trade winds that are present throughout the year. Average temperatures range between 28°C of the coastal plains and 21°C of the mountains of the Cordillera Central. The rainy seasons runs in the months between May and November during the rainy season especially between August and October may arrive on the island the hurricanes. The rains are more intense in the north-east with a yearly average of 2540 mm, while in the south-west leeward valleys, near the border with Haiti, there are only 760 mm of rainfall a year. The south coast has a better climate, drier and less windy than the north-east. The best time to visit the Dominican Republic are the driest months ranging from December to April, in fact at this time temperatures are a little less high, the rains more rare and the air less humid.
