USEFUL INFORMATION:

PASSPORTS AND DOCUMENTATION:

Travel Documents: Passport, with remaining validity of 6 months at the time of entering the country.

Visa: is not required for a stay not exceeding 90 days. You must be in possession of return ticket. 

HEALTH:

Health Care: The health situation is one of the most precarious of Latin America. The appropriate medical care is guaranteed only in the capital. In some residential areas are health care facilities, mostly private, with doctors trained in the U.S.. 

It is advisable to conclude, before undertaking the trip, an health insurance.

 

Vaccinations: No vaccination is required. Recommend, after consulting a doctor, the vaccine against hepatitis A and B and malaria prophylaxis for those that come in the northern area of the country.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRICITY:

Telephones: The country dialling code for Guatemala is 00502.

Cell Phones: Guatemala uses the GSM 900/1900, GSM 850, GSM 1900, is therefore needed a Triband phone. 

Internet: More important Hotels have Internet connections. Many are the Internet cafes in major cities.

Electricity: The electric current is 110 volts, 60 Hz. The socket is a American type. 

CURRENCY AND BANKS:

Currency: Quetzal (GTQ), divived into 100 centavos.

Banks: Easily exchangeable the U.S. dollar and the Euro both convertible in local currency in banks of the major cities and most of the hotel. The U.S. dollars are accepted without problems in many stores. Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in major cities and tourist resorts. 

Banking Hours: Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., Saturday from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
