San Francisco is probably the most beautiful city in the United States of America, located in California, on a peninsula at the entrance of the great San Francisco Bay, along the Pacific Ocean, the city is characterized by modern skyscrapers flanked by many Victorian-style buildings, famous are the bridges that cross the Bay of San Francisco, including the famous Golden Gate Bridge, built in 1937. The City of San Francisco has about 780 000 inhabitants, but the metropolitan area of the Bay has more than 7 000 000 inhabitants, the city is also home to one of the largest Chinese communities in America, who live partly in the famous chinatown. 

San Francisco was founded by the Spaniards in 1776 as a military garrison to which was added a mission established by the Franciscans; in 1821 with the independence of Mexico from Spain, the city became a part of the Mexican state which remained tied until 1846, when it was occupied by American troops, in 1848 San Francisco became officially part of the United States of America. In 1906 the city was almost completely destroyed by a devastating earthquake.
