Despite being a small country, Ecuador has a considerable difference in climate, this is caused mainly by different altitude of the climatic zones of the country.
The coast along the Pacific Ocean has a warm and humid tropical climate with a season of very intense rains between December and May. Average temperatures are around 23°C-26°C throughout the year. Going towards the south the climate is more arid, while to the north have about 2500-3000 mm of rainfall annually, in the far southern coast the average annual precipitation is below 300 mm.
The climate of the high lands of the Andes is temperate and relatively dry, the dry season is between June and September, while the rainy season is between January and May, the average annual rainfall remain between 500 and 1500 mm. The average annual temperature varies between 13°C and 16°C, is the enormous the difference in temperature between day and night and equally important is the change in temperature and precipitation in relation to altitude, between 400 and 1800 meters high average temperatures vary between 20°C and 25°C with important and heavy rains, between 1800 and 2000 meters high average temperatures vary between 15°C and 20°C with moderate rains, between 2000 and 3200 meters high average temperatures vary between 10°C and 15°C with moderate rainfall around 1000 mm per year, over 3200 meters, average temperatures drop further reaching negative values.
