Bhutan (Druk Yul) is a small Asian-Himalayan monarchy state, located on the southern-eastern Himalaya, which borders to the north and north-west with China, to the east, south and south-west with India, it's capital is the city of Thimphu. The territory of Bhutan is formed almost exclusively by mountains, only to the south, near the border with India is a flat area, heading to the north, the territory is characterized by plateaus and mountains that rise above 3,000 meters in this area live the majority of the population of Bhutan, at the north of the country, along the border with China, the Himalaya mountains rise up at several points exceeding 7,000 metres, in this area is the Bhutan highest mountain, Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 metres).
 

The country depends economically from India, underlying the poor economy are agriculture (rice, wheat, millet, barley, corn, potatoes and fruit) and breeding (cattle, yaks, sheep). Some importance has the textile industry and the exploitation of timber. Still more important is the tourism sector. 

 

Area: 47 000 sqkm. (Arable 3%, Pastures 6%, Forests and Woodlands 66%, Uncultivated and Unproductive 25%)

Population: 672 000 (2005 data) (Bhutanese 74%, Nepalese 35%)

State Capital: Thimphu.

Languages: The official language is Dzongkha.

Religion: Buddhist 75%, Hinduist 24%, Christian 1%.

Currency: Ngultrum (BTN) and also Indian Rupee (INR)
