Mongolia (Bügd Najramdah Mongol Ard Uls) is a landlocked Central Asian republic, bordered to the north by Russia and to the south by China, the only major city is the capital Ulan-Bator. The country is made up of a series of plateaus, high in average 1,500 metres, to the west of the plateaus rise the Mongolian Altaj, Tannu Ola, and Hrebret Hangaj mountain ranges, while southwards extends the Gobi Desert.
 

The Mongolian Altai presents the highest mountain of Mongolia, Khuitny Orgil (4,374 meters) in the massif of Tavan Bogd Uul, on the border with China and Russia. The main rivers of the country are the Selenga and Kekulen. The Mongolia economy is based on agriculture (barley, wheat, oats, potatoes and vegetables) and livestock (sheep, goats, cattle and horses), are also important the mineral resources (coal, lignite, oil, gold, fluorite, uranium, salt) and industry (textiles, food, tanning and paper).

Population: 2 950 000 (2007 data) (Mongol 89%, Kazakh 6%, Buriat 2%)

State Capital: Ulan-Bator.

Languages: The official language is Mongolian.

Religion: Buddhist 97%, Muslim 2%, Christian 1%.
