CLIMATE: WHEN TO GO TO AUSTRALIA
AUSTRALIA

CLIMATE: Australia has a wide diversity of types of climate, ranging from the extreme north equatorial climate (York peninsula), to the tropical and sub-tropical coast of Queensland, to the desert areas of central and western Australia, to temperate climate zones of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

Most of Australia is arid, characterized by a desert or subdesertic climate, over 80% of the nation receives less than 600 mm of rain a year. The most arid regions are central, western and south-central, where are the Simpson, Gibson, Tanami, Great Sandy and Great Victoria deserts.

Australia is located in the southern hemisphere and the seasons are opposite to those of Europe, summer is in the months between December and March, while winter is between June and September. The rains are more frequent during the summer (December-March) in the north of the country, while in the south of Australia the rainy season is winter (June to September).

Due to the great variety of climates present in the country, every period of the year is good for a trip to Australia. The winter, but also spring and autumn are great for visiting the regions north of the Tropic of Capricorn, although the nights can be cold in desert areas. The summer but also spring and autumn are a good period for visiting the southern regions.
