The Tokelau Islands, known in the past as the Union Islands are a group of three coral atolls located north of the Samoa Islands and south of Kiribati, about 10° south of the equator. Tokelau is a dependent territory of New Zealand associated with the British Commonwealth. The archipelago consists of the three atolls of Fakaofo (2.63 sq km), Nukunonu (5.46 sq km) and Atafu (2.03 sq km). The local economy is based on fishing and agriculture. The main export products are copra and textiles, important is the issue of the stamps.
