The islands of Wallis and Futuna (Wallis-et-Futuna; Uvea mo Futuna) is a French overseas community, located in the south west Pacific Ocean, it lies to the west of Samoa islands and to the north-east of Fiji Islands. The territory is made up of two groups of volcanic islands (Wallis and Horne) distant among them about 200 km, the Wallis group consists of the island of Wallis or Uvea (96 sq. km) and some islets of its lagoon, while the group of Horne is formed by the islands of Futuna (83 sq km) and Alofi (32 sq km).
The capital of the territory, Mata Utu, is on Wallis, the interior of the island is hilly and reaches the maximum height with the Mont Lulu Fakahega (151 metres), the island is surrounded by a coral reef with numerous sand islets (motu). Futuna is a predominantly mountainous island, in its centre stands the Mont Puke, with a height of 524 meters is the highest peak of the territory. The volcanic island of Alofi reaches the maximum height with the Mont Kolafau (412 metres).
