Climate: The Austrian climate is a continental climate with rigid, rainy and often snowy winters (the winter minimuml temperatures vary between +2°C and -15°C), and short summers with temperatures variable between 20°C and 30°C. Precipitations (800-1,200 milimeter annual) are recorded in maximum part in the summer months, but are less heavy proceeding from the west to east. During winter the snow is frequent, the limit of perennial snows oscillates between 2,500 and 2,800 m.
There are three main climatic zones in the country: the eastern regions have a continental climate with the average of July that exceeds 19°C while the precipitations are often inferior to 800 milimeter annually; the mountainous inner regions have an alpine climate with abundant precipitations, short summers and long winters; the remaining areas of the Austrian territory have the characteristic transition climate of Central Europe, humid and moderated with average of July between 14°C and 19°C and annual precipitations between 700 and 1200 milimeter. Great part of Austria is exposed to dominant winds from the West and North-West.
