Linz is an industrial Austrian city (190,000 inhabitants), is a river-port on the Danube and it's capital of the province of Upper Austria, it's almost halfway between Salzburg and Vienna.

The city was founded by the Romans, who called it "Lentia". During the Middle Ages it became an important commercial center along the Danube and was the seat of the provincial government of the Holy Roman Empire. For a brief period, at the end of the fifteenth century under Frederick III, Linz was also the main center of the Hapsburg Empire.
