TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: WHAT TO VISIT IN SALZBURG

Among the main attractions of the city is the Salzburger Dom, the cathedral of medieval origin but rebuilt, between 1614 and 1628, in stupendous Baroque style by the two Italian architects Vincenzo Scamozzi and Santino Solari. Inside the cathedral is the baptismal font where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized, and a beautiful organ surrounded by angels playing musical instruments. The portal of the cathedral are works of Scheider-Manzell, Mataré and Manzu.

Some of the other attractions are: the Abbey and Benedictine monastery of St. Peter (Erzabtei St. Peter), the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Getreidegasse with the birthplace of Mozart, the Mozartplatz, the palace called Residenz, where resided the archbishops lords of the city, the ancient cemetery St. Petersfriedhof, the Church of St. Sebastian with its cemetery, the Mirabell Palace and the mannerist Hellbrunn palace with its famous fountains. 

Since the end of July to mid August, the city hosts the famous Summer Festival (Salzburger Festspiele) and becomes the fulcrum of the European music world. Moreover Salzburg offers throughout the year a rich cultural program with over 4,000 events of all kinds. The city has conquered one of the first places among the top tourist destinations in the world as a city of fairs and congresses, in fact it hosts one of the most modern Meeting Centers in Europe: the "Salzburg Congress" which is located in Garden Mirabell in the center of the town. Attractions of December is the famous Christmas market of Salzburg or Advent market, which usually take place between late November and Christmas.
