CLIMATE: WHEN TO GO TO VIENNA The climate in Vienna is continental climate, but on average more mild than in other areas of Austria. Thunderstorms occur frequently in summer and snowfall is common in winter. The winter is long and hard with frequent snowfall, with sometimes days of very intense cold, cold is sometimes exacerbated by a moderate west wind. Summer is mild, sometimes warm with frequent rainfall and storms, the average annual rainfall is about 600 mm. Average temperatures in January, the coldest month, vary between -2°C (minimum average) and the 3°C (maximum average), while average temperatures in July, the hottest month varies between 25°C (maximum average) and 15°C (minimum average). Vienna can be visited at any time of year, but spring, autumn and early summer are the best times.
