Vienna, today the capital city of Austria, has been for 640 years the imperial capital of the Habsburg Empire, one of largest and cosmopolite entity in Europe. Vienna’s historical centre in its closeness is among the nicest historical sites in Europe.

The area of Vienna, was originally inhabited by the Celts, then around 100 AD the Romans founded the military outpost of Vindobona to defend the city of Carnuntum. From this period are remains of the old city walls built between 100 and 500 AD.

In the Middle Ages, the city saw a succession of occupation that ended in 1278 when Rudolph I of Germany established the rule of the Habsburg on Austria and Vienna, which will continue until 1918.

Starting in 1483, thanks to Albert II of Habsburg, Vienna became the capital of the Hapsburg Empire. Came back to this long period, the major monuments and palaces that make this a unique city, in Vienna are important medieval, Baroque and Gründerzeit buildings, starting from the sixteenth century, Vienna became universally recognized as the capital of European music.

The city receives the visitor with its remarkable architeture, its wonderful museums and with an important musical tradition, it's the city of Strauss and the walzer, but also composers like Mahler, Mozart and Beethoven have left important traces. Today it is one of the city more visited from the international tourism, in the 2001 the historical center of the city has been inserted from the UNESCO in the list of the places world-wide cultural patrimony of the humanity.
