Mostar (130 000 inhabitans), is the largest and most important city of Herzegovina, is situated along the Neretva River and its name comes from the beautiful bridge (Stari Most) built by the Ottoman Turks in the sixteenth century over the river that crosses. The city was founded by the Ottomans in the fifteenth century and became the administrative center of Turkish Herzegovina. The bridge is the main tourist attractions of the city, was destroyed in 1993, during the war in Bosnia, but it was rebuilt in 2004, fortunately, thanks to UNESCO. The entire old city of Mostar since 2005 is part of UNESCO world heritage properties.
