Situated in the extreme south of Croatia, in the vicinity of the Montenegro border, Dubrovnik (Ragusa) is without doubt the most beautiful city of Croatia. In 1979 it has been inserted from the UNESCO in the World Heritage list. Dubrovnik, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Adriatic", is famous for the beautiful town-walls that completely encircle the city for a length of 1940 meters. Its walls represent one of the most beautiful and better conserved defensives systems of the entire Mediterranean, rich of fortifications, independent bastions, towers and fortresses. The entire perimeter of its walls can be coverd on foot, the walk allows to have a complete and fantastic picture of the architectonic beauties of the city. On the landward side, the walls are four to six metres thick and on the seaward side only 1,5 to three metres, on this side the city is protect from a double wall, height until 25 meters. Along the defensive perimeter are found 15 towers and three main fortresses. A walk along the wonderful walls of Ragusa is one of the unforgettable things to make, the views over the city and the sea are fantastic. Dubrovnik main attractions: the Town-walls; the Stradun; the old port; Minceta tower; San Giovanni Fortress; Revelin Fortress; Lovrijenac Fortress; Pile Gate; San Salvatore Church; Santa Chiara Convent; the great Onofrio's fountain; Franciscan Monastery; Luza Square (with the small Onofrio's fountain, the Orlando column, the Clock Tower, the Luza); the San Biagio Church; the Consiglio Maggiore Palace; the Gran Guardia; the Sponza Palace; the Rettore Palace; the Cathedral; Gundulic Square; the Rupe; Dominican Monastery; the Ploce Gate; the Arsenale; Lokrum island.
Climate in Dubrovnik:
Dubrovnik has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The wettest months are from September until January. Summer days can be intensely hot, but humidity is moderate and gentle breezes ensure very cool, pleasant evenings. The best season for a visit starts from May until August.
