The town of Porec is situated in the central-west side of Istria, on a picturesque promontory that extends towards the Adriatic Sea, almost halfway between Pula and Trieste. The visit of Porec is of great interest for its beautiful Byzantine basilica, the Basilica Eufrasiana. UNESCO has inscribed in 1997, the Episcopal Complex of the Basilica Eufrasiana of Porec (Parenzo) in the list of World Heritage Sites. City of ancient origin, during the reign of Octavian, in 12 BC, became a municipality and joined the X Regio Venetia et Histria; thereafter, at the beginning of the first century AD, was elevated to the colony of Roman citizenship with the name Colonia Iulia Parentium. The city plan still shows the structure of Roman castrum: the main roads, the Decumanus and Cardo Maximus are preserved in their ancient form, the Marafor Square, the ancient Roman Forum presents remains of a temple dedicated to Neptune. Then in the city there are some interesting Romanesque churches and beautiful Gothic Venetian palaces. Porec (Porec) main attractions: the Basilica Eufrasiana (also composed by Episcopio and baptistery) dating from the fifth century but was enlarged in 6th century under the Byzantine bishop Eufrasio, is the main monument of Porec. The Via Decumanus with its palaces. Museum Parentino (Zavicajni Muzej Porestine) with beautiful collection of Roman and early Christian archaeology. House of Two Saints. Palazzo Sincich. Church of St. Francis. The Venetian Walls.
Porec Climate: The climate of Porec (Parenzo) is characterized by hot and dry summers and mild winters. The most rainy months are those from September to January. The average rainfall is around 800 millimeters per year. The best months to visit are those from May to September. The three typical winds of the region are jugo, bora and the mistral. In summer the most is the mistral, a breeze blowing from sea to land and cools the hot summer nights. The lowest temperature of the sea has in March, when varies from 9.3°C to 11.1°C, the highest sea temperatures are in August, when are between 23.3°C and 24.1°C.
