Rovinj (Rovigno), 12,000 inhabitants, lies on a peninsula in the western part of Istria. The town originally stood on an island, separated from the mainland by a channel, buried in 1763, to expand the ancient village. This small and picturesque town overlooking the sea directly with the houses that are reflected, forming a slight arch that rises on benches limestone. 

Rovinj main attractions: The church of Sant' Eufemia is the most imposing building of the town, it dominates the historic center. Built in the early eighteenth century, in the middle of last century has been reconstructed the new facade in Venetian baroque-style. The bell tower of the church, high sixty meters, ending at its summit with the bronze statue of Sant'Eufemia. Very characteristic throughout the old city, once surrounded by a wall with seven gates, three of which were preserved until today. At the point where the stood the gate outside the city, in the seventeenth century, was erected the Baroque arc of Balbi, today entrance to the old city. Among other things we can visit the baptistery of SS. Trinity, octagonal construction located in Piazza sul Laco, which represents the oldest building of Rovinj, and the Franciscan Monastery built in early eighteenth century with a rich library and adjoining a museum of sacred art. 

To visit near Rovinj: 23 km from Rovinj, to visit the ruins of the medieval town of Duecastelli abandoned in the seventeenth century. The channel Lim (Croatian Limski kanal), the only fjord of the Adriatic, 9 km long and 600 m wide average is 15 km from Rovinj. 

 

Rovinj Climate: The climate of Rovinj (Rovigno) is characterized by hot and dry summers and mild winters. The most rainy months are those from September to January. The average rainfall is around 800 millimeters per year. The best months to visit are those from May to September. The three typical winds of the region are jugo, bora and the mistral. In summer the most is the mistral, a breeze blowing from sea to land and cools the hot summer nights. The lowest temperature of the sea has in March, when varies from 9.3°C to 11.1°C, the highest sea temperatures are in August, when are between 23.3°C and 24.1°C.
