Czech Republic (Cěská Republica) was born from Czechoslovakia on 1 January 1993, when the country peacefully split into the Czech and Slovak republics; it's a pluralist multi-party parliamentary representative democracy; and a a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004.
The Czech Republic is formed historically from three great regions: Bohemia (west), Moravia (east) and Silesia (divided with Polonia), administratively is divided in fourteen regions; main cities, beyond Praga, are Brno, Ostrava, Plzen. The country has borders with Poland to the north, Germany to the northwest and west, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east. Under the geo-physical aspect the Czech Republic comprises two regions: Bohemia to the west consists of a basin, drained by the Elbe (Labe) and Vltava rivers, surrounded by mostly low mountains such as the Sudetes with its part Krkonoše, with the highest point in the country, the Sněžka at 1 602 metres. Moravia, the eastern part, is quite hilly and is drained by the Morava river. The Vltava is the longest river in the Czech Republic.
