Climate: The Faroe Islands presents a Maritime Subarctic climate with generally cool summers and mild winters, with a usually overcast sky and frequent fog and strong winds.
The islands are cloudy, wet, and windy throughout the year, with over 260 rainy days in the year. Under the influence of the warm ocean current of the Gulf Stream, the climate is very mild for the latitude.
The harbours never freeze and the temperature in winter time is very moderate considering the high latitude. Snowfall occurs, but is shortlived.
The minimum average temperature ranges from 1°C in winter to 9°C in the summer, while the maximum average tempertures ranges from 5°C in winter to 13°C in the summer. Sunny days are rare and overcast days are common. The islands lie in the path of depressions moving north eastwards and this means that strong winds and heavy rain are possible at all times of the year, the average annual rainfall is 1300 mm.
