The Défense is the more important business district of Paris and the greatest business center of Europe. It's found in the western part of the city at the end of the axis that starts from the Louvre in the center of Paris crosses the Champs-Élysées and the Arc of Triumph. The district is characterized from numerous modern buildings, skyscrapers, offices, flats and shopping centers.  

The symbol of the district is the Grande Arche or Arche de la Défense, the monument was planned from the Danish architect Johann Otto von Spreckelsen and realized between 1983 and 1989. The building is completely covered of Carrara marble, gray granite and glasses, 70 meters wide and 93 metres tall, it's a cube that accommodates 115,000 sqm of offices, on its top ia a panoramic terrace. Other building symbol of the district is the Centre Des Nouvelles Industries et Technologies, known as CNIT, today used as convention center and center of offices and storees. Others imposing modern constructions are the towers Total, Areva, Gan, Société Générale. Also the modern church of Notre Dame de Pentecôte is an interstin modern building.  

In order to reach la Défense can be used the stations of the métro of La Défense-Grande Arche and Esplanade de La Défense.
