Berlin, the capital city of Germany, is rich of historical and modern beauties, it has monuments of the Prussian age and amazing developments of the modern architecture of the last years. The city does not have a defined central zone and the attractions are found dispersed in every angle of the city, the most dense area with places to visit it is found however to the east of the Brandenburg Gate, on both sides of the Unter den Linden. West Berlin has little to offer: of interest are the rests of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, that gives an idea of the destructions brought to the city from the second world war. Berlin main attractions: between the main attractions we can cite: Alexanderplatz, the Cathedral of Berlin, the Bode Museum, the Brandenburg Gate, the Charlottenburg Palace, the Dorotheenstadt Cemetary, the Federal chancery, the New Sinagogue, the Gendarmenmarkt, the Hackesche Höfe, the Shopping Center KaDeWe, the Olympic Stadium, the Radio and the Television Towers. The Museumsinsel, an unique concentration of museums that illustrate the evolution of the modern museums in an arc of time of beyond a century, has been inscribed from the Unesco in the World Heritage List of the patrimony of the humanity in 1999. The museums of the city allow to see numerous works of art, indeed are conserved in the museums of the city the famous statue of the bust of Nefertiti, the greek Pergamon Altar, the painters of the "Brücke" and the "Bauhaus" and works by Baselitz and Beuys. The most famous museum of the city is the Pergamonmuseum, with its collections of Antiquity, of the Near East and Islamic Art. Between the other museums we can cite: Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, the German Historical Museum, the Old and the New National Gallery, the Palace of Charlottenburg, the Technic-Museum, the Altes Museum, the Stiftung Topographie des Terrors, the Egyptian Museum (Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung), the Gemäldegalerie (European art from the 13th to 18th century), the Natural History Museum, one of the more important museums of this kind in the world. With 500 ha of parks and 150 buildings constructed between 1730 and 1916, Potsdam's complex of palaces and parks forms an artistic whole, whose eclectic nature reinforces its sense of uniqueness. It extends into the district of Berlin-Zehlendorf, with the palaces and parks lining the banks of the River Havel and Lake Glienicke.
