The island of Ios (108 sq. km, 1,300 inhabitants) is located in the Aegean Sea, in the south side of the Cyclades, between Naxos and Santorini. The island is mountainous and poor in vegetation, with rocky coasts, the highest point, Mount Pyrgos, reaches 735 metres. According to ancient tradition, in Ios would have found the death and burial Homer, whose head effigies on coins minted in the island. In addition to tourism, agriculture and fishing are the main activities.
