The island of Kos or Cos (290 km ², 31 000 inhabitants) is located in the Aegean Sea in the north side of the Dodecanese, north of Nissyros and south of Kalymnos, the coast of Turkey is located a short distance to the north East, Kos is enclosed within the Turkish peninsulas of Bodrum and Datca.
The island is mountainous, with fertile plains, and reaches its maximum height with the Dikaio mountain (843 meters), there are cultivated vines, olive and fruit trees, also practiced breeding and fishing. The island, which is supposed to be the place where Hippocrates was born, has interesting archaeological remains and some castles.
