The island of Tinos (194 sq km, 8 600 inhabitants) is part of the Cycladic islands, it lies south-east of the island of Andros and north-west of Mykonos, the island's capital is the city of Tinos which is located along the south-west coast. Like many of the Cyclades the island is mountainous, with a coast very jagged, mount Tsiknias (729 meters), located in the south-east, is the highest peak on the island. Feature is the mountain of Exobourgo on top of which is a Venetian fortress. In Tinos is the important shrine of Panagia Evangelistria where is a miraculous icon of the Virgin. The island is also famous for the production of a beautiful green marble renowned throughout Greece.
