Trains: International: The largest transport service provider in Hungary is the Hungarian State Railways Shareholding Company (MÁV). The Hungarian State Railway Company (MÁV Rt.) runs express trains to the main cities of Europe. Train tickets can be bought at the railway stations and railway ticket offices in Budapest and the countryside. Domestic: Budapest has three main railway stations (Southern, Eastern, Western) from here there are services to all Hungary. From the capital to the other main cities and towns of Hungary there are scheduled intercity and express lines. Buses: International: Volánbusz operates international coaches. Transfers are available from Austria, Belgium, Chec Republic, Croatia, Danmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland. Domestic: Hungary has a very well developed internal bus network, with which you can reach any part of the country. In Budapest there are three main Bus stations: Erzsébet tér bus terminal (Direction Western-Hungary), Népstadion bus terminal (Direction Eastern-Hungary), Árpád híd bus terminal (Direction Danube-bend). Volánbusz operates 500 domestic distance coaches to 100 cities of the country daily, creating a direct link between 17 counties and the most important regions and resorts of the country and Budapest. During the day there are coaches in every hour or more often in the direction of Eger, Salgótarján, Gyöngyös, Jászberény, Kecskemét, Székesfehérvár, Veszprém, Tatabánya and Győr, many lines go to the Mátra, the great plain, lake Balaton or other destinations. Boats: There are boats service from Budapest to Vienna on a hydrofoil from April to end of October organised by the Hungarian Shipping Company (MAHART RT.). The tour takes 6 hours from Vienna to Budapest and 5 hours back. Scheduled ships and ferries services are also on Lake Balaton. Taxis: Taxis are equipped with yellow number plates and usually have a yellow "TAXI" sign on the roof. It's a good idea to avoid drivers who volunteer their services but don't have a registered taxi sticker on their car.
