CLIMATE: WHEN TO GO TO NORTHERN ITALY

Milan: The climate of Milan is continental, Milan's winters are typically damp and chilly, while summers can be swelteringly hot and humid with temperatures rising above 30°C during July and August. Humidity is quite high during the whole year and annual precipitation averages about 1000 mm. Snowfalls are common during winter, sometimes with up to 40 cm per year, winter also brings rain showers and heavy fog.

Venice: In Venice it rains almost uniformally throughout the year with every month getting more than 54 mm. of rain. Annual rainfall varies from 800 to 850 mm. Venice becomes extremely hot in July and August, but outside these months the weather is not too excessive. However, bear in mind that Venice, due to its location on the Adriatic coast, suffers from frequent thunderstorms and rain showers. In spring and autumn the weather is often clear and the climate is pleasant. Venice's high season is from April to October. The most pleasant times of year in Venice are from late March to May and September-October. Venice can be flooded by high tides (acqua alta) during winter most likely in November and December.

Florence: Florence enjoys a seasonal, temperate climate, with warm, dry summers and cool to cold winters with a short rainy season early in winter. Choose spring or early autumn for visit Florence. Tuscany has been praised for its light, which has clear golden quality most noticeable when the intensely sunny days of high summer begin to shorten. Spring and autumn days are still warm, with plenty of hours of sunshine to enjoy. July and August are the hottest, driest months, these are the least confortable months for sight-seeing. Autumn is the wettest time in Florence, with heavy downpours which can last for days, especially late in the season. Annual rainfall varies from 800 to 850 mm.  Late summer storms often bring relief from the intense heat. Winter and spring usually have fairly low rainfall.
