TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: WHAT TO VISIT IN MILAN

The city's historical attractions are contained between the Sforzesco Castle, Piazza Cairoli, Piazza Cordusio, Piazza Duomo, and Piazza San Babila. The Duomo, in Gothic style (late 14th - 19th century), is one of the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, the church is a five-aisled cruciform seating 40,000 worshippers. On the northern side of the Piazza del Duomo is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a covered double arcade connecting Piazza del Duomo to the Piazza della Scala, it's the world's most beautiful shopping mall. The famous Teatro alla Scala (La Scala) is one of the world's most famous opera houses. The Castello Sforzesco built in the 15th century is one of Milan's foremost monuments, the castle contains three museums: the Museum of Applied Arts, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Historic Art (Museo d'Arte Antica del Castello Sforzesco), in this last museum is the famous Pieta Rondanini, Michelangelo's final work and paintings by Mantegna, Bellini, Leonardo da Vinci and Fra Filippo Lippi.

The church and Dominican Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, housing one of the most famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper is included in the UNESCO World-Heritage sites list since 1980. Other attractions are the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, the Palaeo-Christian Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Biblioteca Ambrosiana and the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Pinacoteca di Brera (Brera Academy of Fine Arts), the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia "Leonardo da Vinci" (National Science and Technology Museum), the Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna (Gallery of Modern Art) with works by Picasso, Matisse, Renoir, Gaugin and Cézanne.
