Maritime Transport: International Transport: There are three ferry services from the UK. Stena Line: between Harwich and Hoek van Holland (Hook of Holland). DFDS Seaways: between Newcastle upon Tyne and IJmuiden. P&O Ferries: between Kingston Upon Hull and Rotterdam Europoort. National Transport: Ferries to the Wadden Islands: Schiermonnikoog Island: Ferry company Wagenborg sails from Lauwersoog in the province of Groningen to Schiermonnikoog. The island of Schiermonnikoog is a nature reserve. The crossing to Schiermonnikoog takes about 45 minutes. The ferry usually sales four times a day. Terschelling Island: Ferry company Doeksen sails from Harlingen in Friesland to Terschelling. There is a regular ferry (two hours) as well as a fast ferry (50 minutes). Both sailing approximately three times a day. Texel Island: From Den Helder a ferry of the Teso Company takes you to Texel. The crossing to Texel takes about twenty minutes. The ferry usually sales every hour. Ameland Island: Ferry company Wagenborg sails from Holwerd in the province of Friesland to Ameland. The ferry sails to the small town of Nes. The crossing to Ameland takes about 45 minutes. Vlieland Island: Ferry company Doeksen sails from Harlingen in Friesland to Vlieland. There is a regular ferry (one hour and forty-five minutes) as well as a fast ferry (fifty minutes). Both sailing approximately three times a day. Trains: International Transport: The Netherlands are well connected to the European hi-speed train network. Various modern and ultrafast trains depart several times a day from cities like Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Berlin and London. The Thalys high-speed train, connects the Netherlands with France and Belgium. The ICE high-speed train, runs from Frankfurt to Amsterdam, via Cologne, Düsseldorf, Arnhem, and Utrecht. Intercity trains run from Berlin and Hannover to Amsterdam or Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, via Osnabrück, Hengelo, Deventer, Apeldoorn, Amersfoort and Hilversum. National Transport: The Netherlands have a dense, efficient railway network with modern, fast trains that interconnect cities several times an hour. Trains reach many cities, towns and villages. Buses: International Transport: Eurolines are the main operator for international buses to the Netherlands. National Transport: For relatively short distances, and if you travel to areas without railway lines, the bus is an excellent means of transportation. Taxis: Taxis can be recognized by the blue license plates with black letters and digits and the taxi sign on top of the roof.
