LAGOS
LAGOS, ALGARVE, PORTUGAL

Lagos (27,000 inhabitants) was an ancient port, also used during the Arab occupation, it became important in the fifteenth century, thanks to the prince of Portugal, Henry the Navigator, who used it as a preferred basis for the departure of Portuguese vessels designed to explore the coast of Africa. Lagos was the Algarve capital between 1576 and 1756. The city was destroyed by the earthquake of 1755.
