In the coastal zone (Koper), the climate is Mediterranean, with summer quite pleasant and mostly dry with average highs usually just below 30°C, while winters are caraterize by cold northeastern bora winds and heavy rainfall.
Inland the continental climate takes hold, summers are hot but often subject to significant downpours and winters are long, cold and with abundant snowfall. From November to February, temperature readings below freezing are common. The average temperatures in July reached 21°C, while in January is 0°C.
Typically, the rains are abundant species on the mountains, reaching 1,200 to 1,400 mm annually. Rainfall in the capital averages 1390 mm a year. The Julian Alps and the Dinaric-Alpine barrier receive the greatest amount; the second maximum is in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
