POSTOJNA CAVES
POSTOJNA, SLOVENIA
 

 

Postojna (14 500 inhabitants) is a town that is located in Slovenia, only 35 km from the border with Italy and 45 km from Trieste, Postojna became famous for its beautiful caves, which are open to the public since the nineteenth century, in 1872 to facilitate the visit tha caves were equipped with a small rail.

The cave measuring 20 km long and is one of the natural wonders of the Kras, interesting for the variety of forms of calcareous concretions, stalactites and stalagmites, and the extent of the caves. The visit of the caves is simple, the route without any major differences in levels is accomplished in 1 hour and 30 minutes, a first stretch of 3.5 kilometers is being done with an electric train, while the remaining 2 km are made on foot. Inside the caves the temperature is about 8°C and humidity of 95%, for the visit equip with a waterproof (you can also rent them at the entrance).

TICKETS: Adults € 19.00. Students € 16.00. Children (5-18 years) € 12.00. Children (0-5 years) € 1.  

TIMETABLE: During the months of January, February, March, November, December every day at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00. In April, October daily at 10.00, 12.00, 14.00, 16.00. In May, June, July and August every day at 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00, 17.00, 18.00. In September every day at 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00, 17.00. The visit is carried out with a guide in Slovene, English, Italian and German.
