Antequera (around 40.000 inhabitants) lies 47 km from Málaga, at the feet of the mountain chain of El Torcal and of the strange mountain 880 meters high, called the Peña de los Enamorados. Antequera is found to a height of 575 mslm, in the center of a fertile area where are produced cereals, asparagus and olives. The visit of the city is a tour in the deep history of Andalusia, in fact in the area there are historical testimonies that begin from the age of the bronze. The things to see space from burial hills, to the dolmen, to the roman baths, to the rests of the Arabic domination, between which a Moor castle, to the gothic churches, to the renaissance fountains and to the baroque bell towers.
Antequera main attractions: Covering along the time the history of Antequera we can begin our visit from the Dolmens, that are found in the park to the west of the town, most spectacular of which is the Cueva de Menga, a tomb constituted from enormous masses, datable to 5000 years ago. We can then visit the Roman Baths, that are found in the vicinities of the Collegiate. Through the Arc of Giants (1585) we can entered in the Arabic Castle (Alcazaba) of 13th century, that dominates the city from a cliff.
Of the period successive to the Arabic occupation, are worth a visit the magnificent renaissance collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor (16th century), and the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Palacio de la Nájera of 18th century is the headquarters of the Municipal Museum, the masterpiece of the museum is the Epheb of Antequera, a bronze statue high 1,54 m. of the 1th century. Other museums are the Museum of the Aceite (Museum of the Oil), and the Taurine Museum.
In the vicinities of Antequera are worth a visit: the natural park of El Torcal, characteristic for its beautiful rocks formations; the lagoon Fuente de Piedra where the flamingoes nest.

Climate in Andalusia: Andalusia is one of the warmest regions of Europe, it has in fact a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters with irregular rains. The better period for a visit start from March to June and from the September until all November. In July and August the temperatures are torrid and often 40°C are overcome. The climate on the shoreline is more moderated, while inland the winters are rigid and the summers are torrid. In the eastern zones the climate is more dry that in the western ones. The winter, can be dark and rainy and rather cold in mountain.
