TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: WHAT TO VISIT IN ANTEQUERA

Covering along the time the history of Antequera we can begin our visit from the Dolmens, that are found in the park to the west of the town, most spectacular of which is the Cueva de Menga, a tomb constituted from enormous masses, datable to 5000 years ago. We can then visit the Roman Baths, that are found in the vicinities of the Collegiate. Through the Arc of Giants (1585) we can entered in the Arabic Castle (Alcazaba) of 13th century, that dominates the city from a cliff.

Of the period successive to the Arabic occupation, are worth a visit the magnificent renaissance collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor (16th century), and the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Palacio de la Nájera of 18th century is the headquarters of the Municipal Museum, the masterpiece of the museum is the Epheb of Antequera, a bronze statue high 1,54 m. of the 1th century. Other museums are the Museum of the Aceite (Museum of the Oil), and the Taurine Museum.

In the vicinities of Antequera are worth a visit: the natural park of El Torcal, characteristic for its beautiful rocks formations; the lagoon Fuente de Piedra where the flamingoes nest.
