Minorca is the second largest island of the Balearic Islands, it has an area of 689 square kilometers and a population of 85,000 inhabitants. Minorca it's the easternmost island of the archipelago, located east of the island of Majorca, from which it is separated by a narrow stretch of sea, the Canal de Mallorca. Mostly flat, the highest point of Minorca is the Monte Toro (358 m), the island has carved coast from deep rías. The capital, Mahon has about 20,000 inhabitants, situated at the end of a long inlet, and has a good port and an airport which lies southwest of the city. The main cities are Mahón and Ciutadella. The main resources of the island are agriculture (production of wine, olive oil, potatoes, cereals, fruits, vegetables), livestock (cattle, poultry), fishing and especially tourism, which was developed thanks to the presence of beautiful beaches.
