COSTA DORADA

The Costa Dorada (Daurada in Catalan) is the coastal region of the province of Tarragona, south of Barcelona, between the delta of the river Ebro to the south and Sitges to the north, more than 100 km of well-developed coast in terms of tourism. The coast is very diverse, made up of beaches of all sizes, small sandy bays such as Miami Platja in Mont-roig Camp, rocky coast as in Torredembarra, sandy beaches of Salou. Especially known for the environmental quality and the purity of the sea water are the beaches of Torredembarra, Calafell, Roda de Barà, and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant. The towns of Calafell, Salou and Cambrils have been certified as ideal destinations for tourism of families by the government of Catalonia. The archaeological area of Tarragona was declared in 2000 by UNESCO a world heritage, the ancient Tárraco was one of the main commercial and administrative center of Roman Spain, today are visible, the ancient Roman walls, the theater, a forum, the amphitheater, the remains of an arch of triumph, and so on. The Costa Dorada also offers different possibilities of excursions for nature lovers, as in the Natural Park of Montsant and in the Prades Mountains, there are also protected natural areas along the coast, are among these wetlands, a paradise for lovers of birdwatching, and areas of sand dunes. Not far from Tarragona, in the interior is another site declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, the Monastery of Poblet.
