COSTA TROPICAL
COSTA TROPICAL, ANDALUSIA, SPAIN

Costa Tropical is the coastline washed by the Mediterranean Sea in the province of Granada in Andalusia, it extends about 60 km from the village of La Herradura in the west and the Castillo de Baños to the east, and is crossed by the coastal road N°340, which runs from west to east along the coast. The Costa Tropical is distinguished from the rest of the Spanish coast due to the presence of the Sierra Nevada mountains that come here to meet the Mediterranean Sea, forming a rugged coastline, the Costa Tropical has not had a wild cementing of other coastal areas of Spain, it is composed mainly by farmland and picturesque seaside resorts.

The region is less dry and more lush than the surrounding areas, thanks to the presence of the nearby mountain range, and has a pleasant micro-climate with mild winters and relatively mild summers, with summer temperatures 10°C lower in confront to the area north of the mountain. The two main towns of the Costa Tropical are Almuñécar and Motril, another very interesting town is Salobreña. Rich in historical treasures, the Costa Tropical has Phoenician necropolis, ruins of Roman aqueducts, and abundant remains of many centuries of Arab domination, among them numerous castles.
