TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: WHAT TO VISIT IN UBEDA Plaza Vázquez de Molina, in the heart of the city, is one of the best renaissance spaces of Spain. In the monumental square there are the Sacra Capilla del Salvador (1540-1556, projected by Diego de Siloé and realized by Andrés de Vandelvira), the gothic Iglesia de Santa María de los Reales Alcázares, the Palacio de Vázquez de Molina (work of Andrés de Vandelvira, known also as Palacio de las Cadenas), the Palacio del Deán Ortega (renaissance palace, work of Andrés de Vandelvira), the Palacio del Marqués de Mancera, the Antiguo Pósito (grain warehouse of 17th century), the house de Juan de Medina, the Cárcel del Obispo and the Palacio Francisco de los Cobos. To the right of the Capilla del Salvador, Calle Baja del Salvador begins, this street goes to the Hospital de los Honrados Viejos del Salvador and to a lookout from where admire beautiful panoramas towards the mountains of Cazorla and Mágina. The Hospital de Santiago was planned by Andrés de Vandelvira in late 16th century. From the square Vázquez de Molina, we can easily arrived to the square of the Mercado, partially reconstructed in 19th century, but that introduces some interesting constructions as iglesia de San Pablo (15th-16th century), and the Ayuntamiento Viejo. Other interesting monuments of Úbeda are: the Palacio de los Vela de los Cobos, the Palacio of Conde de la Guadiana, the Casa de las Torres, the Santa Clara, the Iglesia de San Pedro, the Iglesia de San Lorenzo, the Convent de San Miguel y Oratorio de San Juan de la Cruz, the Convent de Carmelitas Descalzos, the Convent of the Inmaculada Concepción, the Palacio de D. Luis de la Cueva, the Palacio del Marqués de la Rambla and the Palacio de los Medinilla. |
