Zermatt is located on the bottom of a valley (Mattertal) at the foot of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa in the Valais Alps (Walliser Alpen) in the southern part of Switzerland, at an altitude of 1600 m. The small town is a popular summe center and renowned center for winter sports without traffic, picturesque, with more than 5000 inhabitants. In Zermatt there aren't motor vehicles: electric-cars and horse-drawn sleighs and carriages are the only transport allowed.

How to reach Zermatt: Access to the private cars is allowed only until Täsch (5 km before Zermatt). By car you can reach Zermatt by Visp along the road towards Tasch and Zermatt, as far as Tasch, here you leave the car in the parking garage of Matterhorn Terminal Täsch (13.50 Swiss Francs per day, automatic machines are available round the clock at various locations to pay the car parking charges (Franks and Euro), credit cards), from the parking you arrives directly at the terminal departure of trains to Zermatt (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn). For the transport of luggage you can use trolleys that are on each floor of the car park, a deposit of CHF 5.00 for use of the baggage trolley must be paid directly at the trolley station. This charge is automatically refunded when the trolley is docked at the destination station. After use, the baggage trolleys can be parked and docked again at the destination. Between Täsch and Zermatt, they accompany passengers in the modern shuttle trains of the Matterhorn Gotthard railway. After 12 minutes the transfer by train ends in the square of Zermatt station in the heart of the village at the foot of the Matterhorn. Zermatt Main Attractions: Around Zermatt rise 38 of the 76 European peaks that exceed the four thousand meter. The ski resort of Zermatt is connected to the area of Breuil-Cervinia (Italy) through the passage of Teodulo (3301 m) and Testa Grigia (3480 m). A bold narrow gauge railway linking Zermatt with the Gornergrat to 3089 meters high in some ten kilometers. Another train leads to Sunnegga Paradise (2288 m) and from there you can reach through gondola lift until Rothorn Paradise (3103 m). Others scenic points reached by cable car are the Schwarzsee paradise (2583 m), right at the foot of the Matterhorn, and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (3883 m), the highest viewpoint in Europe reached by cable car. 

 

Zermatt climate: The Valais is characterized by a pleasant climate, very dry and very mild until autumn. The town of Zermatt is placed over 1600 meters high, is favored by his position to the south, protected from wind and snow guaranteed during the winter. The total average annual rainfall is around 690 mm a year, the months with less rainfall are between January and March. Minimum temperatures are usually below zero between the months of November and April.
