Ukraine (Ukrayina) is a semi-presidential country in Eastern Europe, it became indipendent after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the country is bordered to the north by Belarus, to the east by Russia, to the west by Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, to the south-west by Moldova and Romania, while to the south overlooking the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The capital of the country is the city of Kiev and other major cities are: Charkiv (Karkov), Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Donec'k, Zaporižžja, L'viv and Sevastopol. Ukraine, after Russia, is the second largest country in Europe. 

Ukraine is formed mostly by flatlands, covered with forests and steppes, where flowing some large rivers such as the Dnepr (the third longest river in Europe), the Dniestr and the Donec, while to the extreme south-west of the country the Danube marks the border with Romania. The plains stretch in the central and eastern areas, while to the north-west the landscape is more mountainous; in the far western edge, the Ukrainian territory is crossed from south to north from the Carpathian mountain range that reaches the highest peak of country with Goverla mountain (2.061 meters). The Ukrainian coast, both along the Black Sea as along the Sea of Azov, is mostly flat, sometimes swampy, only along the southern coast of the peninsula of Crimea there are mountains above the 1.500 meters high.  

 

The Ukrainian economy is an economy based on industry, agriculture and livestock. Agriculture produces cereals, fruits, cotton, vegetables, while are raising cattle and pigs. Ukraine was one of the most industrialized areas of the former Soviet Union, today the country has among the leading sectors those of high technology (aerospace and space industry), metal, steel and industrial processing of agriculture products. Important also the subsoil resources (coal, iron).

Population: 46,000,000. Ukrainians (78%), Russians (17%)

State Capital:: Kiev (Kyiv)

Language: The official language is Ukrainian (first language for 67% of the population). Well-known the Russian (first language for 30% of the population).

Religion: Orthodox Christians (80%), Catholics (10%).

Currency: Hryvnia (UAH)
