The
city of Lençois, 410 kilometers to the west of Salvador, was founded, by the
garimpeiros, in 1845. The name "Lençois" means "sheets, the
name's origin seems be from the tents of the garimpeiros (prospectors) that were stretched
out in such quantities that viewed from above they looked like sheets. With its
architecture, inheritance of the diamonds time and as touristic center of the Chapada
Diamantina, Lençois draw visitors and several infrastructure of numerous and varied
restaurants and hotels and pousadas has arisen to serve travellers' needs.
