MALIGNE CANYON |

To reach
Maligne Canyon take Hwy 16 east from Jasper Townsite to Maligne Lake Road. It is 11kms to
Maligne Canyon.
| This is one of the most
spectacular gorges in the Canadian Rockies, sheers limestone walls plunge to depths of
over 50 metres. The Maligne Canyon Trail provides picturesque views of a
canyon gouged out of limestone by the glaciers, the trail cross the canyon six times. This
is an interpretative trail and the explanations along the way make the hike all the more
interesting. The Maligne Canyon section of Trail 7 provides the best views of this
famous limestone gorge. Cross the suspension bridge over Maligne River and keep right at
all intersections as you work your way up the canyon, gaining 100 m (the views are better
if you are facing up-canyon). Interpretive signs explain how Maligne Canyon is
connected to Medicine Lake, 15 km away, by a
cave system. |
