On 31
October 1918 the population of Zara rebeled againstthe Austrian
governors and raised the Italian flag, on 4 November 1918 the city was occupated by
Italian army. The treaty of Rapallo (12 November 1920) give Zara with a small territory
(the Municipalities of Boccagnazzo, Borgo Erizzo, Cerno and part of Diclo (Dicolo)) (51
sq. km. of territory and 17.065 inhabitants) and the islands of Làgosta and Pelagosa (53
sq. km. of territory and 1.710 inhabitants), in total a territory of 104 sq. km., to
Italy. The territory was organized into an Italian province. Zara remained under Italian
sovranity until 31 October 1944.

I visited Zara and I searched for the few remain of the Italian
period. The discovery of the old custom houses was surprising. I hadn't the possibility
to visit the Italian Cemetery.
