Sharjah is the third largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates after Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and is the only one to have land on both the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Sharjah extends along 16 km of the United Arab Emirates's Persian Gulf coastline and for more than 80 km into the interior, in addition there are three enclaves belonging to Sharjah situated on the east coast, bordering the Gulf of Oman, these are Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Dibba al-Husn. The city of Sharjah (519,000 inhabitans, the 3rd largest of the Emirates) is the main administrative and commercial center of Sharjah Emirate and the cultural capital of the United Arab Emirates. Located in the center of UAE, the distance to Dubai is just 15 Km, Abu Dhabi is about 200 km from Sharjah; the main attractions are the two covered souqs, a number of recreational areas and public parks such as Al Jazeirah Fun Park and Al Buheirah Corniche, several elegant mosques, many museums such as Sharjah Archaeology Museum, Sharjah Natural History Museum and Desert Park, Sharjah Science Museum, Sharjah Islamic Museum, Sharjah Heritage Museum. The Expo Center of Sharjah is well know for the annual book fair that is famous all over the region. Sharjah has a dry climate, characterized by scanty and erratic rainfall, and high levels for temperature, humidity, and sunshine. Between November to April the weather is ideal, being warm and sunny with cool evenings and daytime temperature ranging from 18°C-30°C. From May till September the climate is hot with mid-day temperatures in July/August reaching up to 40°C, there is 100% humidity during these 2 months.
